The importance of teamwork and collaboration within the airport industry is quite crucial. The airport industry is one that I have found is particularly supportive and helpful for its members.
There's always people, peers at other airports, your technical inspectors, your regulator, CASA... They are always willing to help and provide support where required. It's a fantastic industry to get into. It's very nurturing.
What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career in the industry?
The advice I would give to someone considering entering the airport industry would be to go for it. If you love variety, being challenged in your day-to-day operations and love being outside and have a flair for compliance and regulation, go for it. It is fantastic.
Tell us about some of the opportunities for growth or advancement you have encountered in your job.
The opportunities for growth that I have encountered are considerable. The beauty of having a role in operations is that you can move in several directions, such as ops management, further up the chain, through to emergency management, emergency exercises, even into terminal management.
It's quite diverse and there's a lot of room for opportunity within the airport industry.
In your opinion, what makes the airport industry a unique and exciting field to work in?
The airport industry is never boring, particularly in my role where I get the best of both worlds. I can be inside in the office preparing method of works plans, going through projects and then I can be outside and being there when we break dirt.
It offers fantastic variety and a lot of scope. It's the best industry!
