What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career in the industry?
If you have a passion for aviation, the airport industry is full of opportunities. I work closely with accountants, project management, airside officers... anything you want to do, jump in and give it a go. You'll probably find that it's quite addictive and you won't want to leave.
Tell us about some of the opportunities for growth or advancement you’ve encountered in your job.
There's a lot of room for growth in the aviation industry. I started as an administration Trainee and after 12 months, I got the opportunity to work in the facilities department. I learned about all maintenance aspects of an airport and recently I got promoted to a Terminal Duty Manager role, which is helping me learn all things operational.
Tell us about the most rewarding part of your job.
I find that the most rewarding part of my job here at Hobart Airport is being part of a big community. Everyone's like a big family, coming to work is so enjoyable.
I also love how it's customer-facing and we get to talk to people and meet people from all walks of life.
In your opinion, what makes the airport industry a unique and exciting field to work in?
I think the airport industry is a unique and exciting place to work because no two days are the same. You get to meet people from all walks of life and be part of their adventure as they are travelling to or from home.
